OSHC Easter Vacation Program
From Our Principal ...
Dear Families
The chance to just gather and see our kids enjoy the P&F’s Family Fun Afternoon was one of those things that you don’t know you're missing until you have the chance to do it.
The consequences of three years of COVID are still being felt and the social events that used to be a regular part of our world fell by the wayside.
As a first off event, I thought that Friday afternoon was very well attended. Seeing families gathering and playing with their children is a great reminder that this is one of the big non-academic goals that I think is important for schools to work towards.
The Family Fun Afternoon came about through our P&F committee wanting to provide an event similar to our Moonlight Fair that was held for many years, but without the fundraising component.
The levy that is included in school fees, is used to support learning and a range of projects around the school and ensures that we can avoid the continuous stream of raffles, pies and chocolate drives that tend to be associated with fundraising.
Monica Erridge and the P&F committee did a fantastic job pulling the event together but a very special Thank You also needs to go out to Mrs. Lindsay Windress. Lindsay has been a parent at St John’s for many years and active within the P&F during that time. She came to the committee with the proposal for Friday and was instrumental in getting it up and running.
This Friday, around Australia we acknowledge World Teachers Day and while our P& F is very generously providing a small gift, I think it is important that we acknowledge the ongoing commitment from our teachers who provide so many opportunities and learning experiences for our kids far beyond just academic instruction. At St John’s we are very blessed to have a team of teachers who go above and beyond on a regular basis.
Have a great week and hug your kids.

Year 6 Award Update information

This year, as we continue to foster ways to acknowledge academic excellence across the Year 6 cohort, it has been decided to change the award of “Dux” to an “Academic Excellence” Award.
Previously the “Dux“ award was presented to one Year 6 student, with the main criteria being excellence in academic results.
The Academic Excellence award will now be presented to any Year 6 student who achieves the following results in their final year of schooling (across Semester 1 and Semester 2):
- An A result in English
- An A result in Mathematics
- An A result in 2 of the 3 other subject areas (being Religious Education, HASS and(or) Science)
Crazy Sock Day & Day for Daniel - Friday 25 October
On Friday 25 October St John’s will hold their annual Crazy Sock Day. Students are encouraged to wear flamboyant and colourful socks to raise awareness for Socktober. This year the focus is on Mongolia and the homeless. Please bring along a gold coin donation for the day.
Some Year 5 students are creating colourful bracelets to sell. They will be on sale Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (23-25 Oct) from Nazarene Place for a gold coin.
On this day we also promote the importance of child safety. Students are encouraged to wear a splash of red with their crazy socks and PE uniform for Day for Daniel.

Combined Schools Musical Cast Members

Congratulations to all St John’s students who auditioned for the 2024 Combined Schools Musical – The Little Mermaid.
From those auditions, two St John's students were selected to join the cast. Zeanna Stokes and Lucy Hodge are excited about the learning curve they, and their families, are about to embark on.
We send blessings and prayers to all who auditioned, for their confidence and willingness to share the gifts they have.
Almighty God, creator of heaven and earth, I lift my soul in humble adoration and praise to you. I know that every good and perfect gift comes from you, so I ask you for success today. Your word promises, “commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans” (Proverbs 16:3).
