From Our Principal ...
Dear Families
Michael Jordan once famously said, "I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times I've been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."
This quote speaks of the importance of resilience. By experiencing failures, Jordan developed an unyielding determination to keep pushing forward. The ability to learn from his mistakes and grow stronger, is a skill I would wish for all our kids. Every setback he encountered became an opportunity for him to bounce back with renewed vigour. Our kids will experience many ups and downs throughout their lives. The important life skill is how they react. Over the players entrance at Wimbledon’s centre court is a quote from Rudyard Kipling’s poem ‘If’.
It says “if you can meet with Triumph and Disaster and treat those two impostors just the same.”
Too often the focus in sport, school or life is the result. How often do we examine the journey and address the growth. The great rugby league coach Jack Gibson often used to say that a “man learns more about himself after a savage loss than he will ever learn from a great victory”.
Not succeeding in a chosen activity is not something I would wish for anyone, but the ability to learn from every experience turns a moment of failure into an opportunity for growth. Mark Twain famously said, "good decisions come from experience; experience comes from bad decisions.”
Our role as parents is not to be a saviour - there to eliminate these experiences from our childrens’ lives, but to be there as a scaffold that supports them through the experience.
Have a great week and hug your kids.
Regards,
Jamie Emerick
Principal.
Admin Car Park CLOSED DAILY at 2:40pm
For the safety of our students the front Administration car park will be closed daily at 2:40pm. This car park is NOT for before/after school student drop-off and pick-up.
Students must be picked-up and dropped off in the allocated, supervised areas as detailed below.

Early Departures on Friday Afternoons
On a Friday after 1:25pm, all children will be participating in activities with their buddy class.
If you need to collect your child early, unless the matter is urgent, please pre-arrange early collection of your child with your child's teacher or the office, prior to Friday afternoon. This allows us to locate children who will be spread around our site during buddy activities.
Thank you in advance for your understanding and assistance with this.
St John's Reach Out Group

‘Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience’ (Colossians 3:12)
Mrs. O’Brien needs YOU!
The Reach Out group needs a co-ordinator.
After many years, our beautiful Tracey is stepping down from the role. I would like to say a huge thank you to her for the generosity and compassion she has shown to others.
The Reach Out group has touched the hearts of many families. A kind word, card, flowers or simple meal can make a difference to the lives of people within our school community.
The co-ordinator works closely with Lisa O’Brien (APRE) to send out emails to members with possible requests. If you would like to find out more, please email Lisa or speak with her directly. People who want to join and help in some way can contact Lisa as well. lisa_obrien@rok.catholic.edu.au
Bless you all.
Project Compassion 2024

Each year, St John’s supports Caritas through Project Compassion. The aim is to recognise the dignity of each person so they and their communities can become more independent and successful. Catholic Social Teaching is at the heart of how each person can be authentically Christian in their actions and reflections.
The student council will be organising a Boots, Books and Bakery stall from March 18 where students and families can purchase items. All monies raised will be donated to Project Compassion. Each classroom has a Project Compassion donation box for spare change.
This year, the school has set up a donation page on the Project Compassion website. If your family, or friends, would like to donate online, you are welcome to do this. Just search for St John the Baptist Primary School CLINTON and make a donation. This is an invitation for our school community to make a difference in the lives of those who are marginalised.
