Informer Term 2 Week 8
From Our Principal...
Dear Families
As we head into June, we are fast approaching the end of the term and the semester. It can be a time when the fuel reserves start to run low and we all get just that bit ragged around the edges.
One of the high points of this time of year is that we head into the annual State of Origin competition in rugby league. For the uninitiated, it is a three game series between Queensland and New South Wales. It is rugby league at its best and a fierce contest that sums up the best in the game.
At that level, it is not always skill that makes the difference, it is desire to win and the ability to keep competing even when the tank is empty.
I spoke on assembly this morning and told our kids about a great story from New South Wales’s most successful coach Phil Gould. Some love him, many hate him, but like all great coaches, he has an uncanny ability to get the most out of his players.
He has a mantra that he often repeats and it is that “Origin doesn’t start until the last ten minutes of the game”.
It is a great reminder as I said this morning that when we are tired and have had enough, that is when we have to focus, concentrate and at times, dig deep to make sure we are giving our learning our best effort. That is the time that makes the difference.
It is an interesting experience to watch your kids when they struggle. The parent in us wants to jump in and fix the problem. In the short term we do, but are we giving them the skills to deal with the problems they will face throughout their lives. We will not be there forever. How are we giving our kids the opportunity to learn while we are still there to debrief after the incident?
Have a great week and hug your kids

APRE News...
Confirmation
Last week, 98 young people in our parish received the Sacrament of Confirmation, many of whom were from St John’s. We congratulate them all and pray that the gifts they received from the Holy Spirit in this sacrament will help them to make Jesus real to others by the way they live their lives.
Please continue to keep them in your prayers as they now prepare to receive the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist in a few weeks time.
The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
This feast was celebrated last Sunday in our Catholic churches.
It is a dogma (a belief that is held as incontrovertibly true) of the church, that the bread and wine offered in the mass is changed, at the consecration, into the actual body and blood of Christ, something that is impossible for us to understand or explain. When we consume the body and blood in communion, we are transformed and Christ’ presence enables us to be more Christ-like to others. Christ within, gives us what we need to face the challenges of life.

World Environment Day 2021
The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) annually organizes events for World Environment Day, which encourages worldwide awareness and action for the protection of the environment. It is celebrated on 5 June in over 100 countries.
We carry many wonderful non-fiction titles in our library for you to read and gain information about the ways we have contributed to the destruction of our beautiful plant and, thankfully, also the many ways we are caring for your wonderful world.
