From Our Principal ...
Dear Families
I came across this quote during the break, it is a wonderful reminder of the one super power each one of us possesses. Regardless of what happens to us, we still have the choice on how we respond. We always get to choose our attitude.
Hate has 4 letters; so does Love.
Enemies has 7 letters; so does Friends.
Lying has 5 letters; so does Truth.
Negative has 8; so does Positive.
Under has 5; so does Above.
Cry has 3 letters; so does Joy.
Anger has 5 letters; so does Happy.
Right has 5 letters; so does Wrong.
Hurt has 4 letters; so does Heal.
It means life always presents us with two choices, so transform every negative side into an aura of positivity. We should choose the better side of the life. (Unknown)
I hope that the break was a chance to spend time with family and prepare for the coming term. During this term, interviews will be held and we should have news about a new Director for Catholic Education -Diocese of Rockhampton(CEDR).
Have a great week and hug your kids.
Regards
Jamie Emerick
Principal
Girl's School Captain

As you would be aware, Amelia Mullins our girl’s school captain, has transferred with her family to Brisbane.
At the end of Term 1, shortlisted candidates from last year's election were given the opportunity to be re-considered for the girl’s school captain position for the remainder of the year.
After, speeches and the election process involving students from Years 3 to 6, and staff, we are pleased to announce that Lila Stephenson is the successful candidate.
Congratulations Lila!

Project Compassion - Thank You
Thank you for your generous contribution to Project Compassion.
“A merciful heart sees opportunities for compassion” Pope Francis
We wish to extend gratitude to the staff, students and families within our school community. This is for their growing awareness of the plight of others in our world, the opportunity to walk in someone else’s shoes and to be proactive in our endeavours.
The students raised funds $550.40 through their Project Compassion boxes and our Book Stall raised $550.35. We have also donated boots to the community of Woorabinda and hopefully by being the hands and feet of Christ can demonstrate the heart of God…this is love.
A huge thank you to the student council representatives and Mrs. Mitchell for their fantastic organisation of the book stall.
A prayer…
God of all hope,
we pray for our world
with all its beauty and need.
May all creation know your
compassion this Lent and may
we take courage to share it,
especially with those who don’t
have what they need.
Move us to act in the company
of your Spirit, showing
compassion and acting for
justice to renew the face of
the Earth, now and for all
future generations.

2024 Cross Country Wrap-Up
On the last day of Term One, we hosted our annual St John’s Cross Country. The weather looked like it was not going to cooperate, but the rain ceased long enough for our event to be held and the cloud cover cooled us down. A huge congratulations goes to all of our students who put in their very best in this year’s Cross Country race.
For our Prep students it was their very first Cross Country race and for our Year 6 students, it was their last race in a primary school setting. We hope the race was enjoyed by all our students as we know they have worked very hard leading up to the event.
While not everyone received a ribbon, I am sure everyone achieved their personal best and should be very proud of their efforts.
As always, I thank our brilliant parent (and grandparent!) community for always supporting our students in all aspects of school life here at St John’s and to our amazing St John’s staff for always going beyond expectation to make it a smooth and enjoyable event for all.
Congratulations to Cummins House who is in the lead with 540 points! 😊

Library News

Welcome back to school!!
Last term the Year Six classes and I enjoyed listening to this novel new to the library.
When eleven-year-old Cailin’s mother takes a contract job on Victoria’s eastern coast, Cailin’s holiday plans are ruined. Worse, they’re staying at her estranged grandfather’s shack at Whitefoam Cove. Cailin barely remembers him, let alone knows him.
Grandpa doesn’t have Wi-Fi, and his television is older than him. Memories of her father are everywhere and, to make matters worse, she’s left her cricket bat at home. How will she make the team now? And how will she keep in touch with her best friend, Josie? It’s going to be the worst summer ever.
But life with Grandpa proves to be anything but boring. There’s treasure to be found at Whitefoam Cove! But just when cricket mad Cailin and Grandpa finally feel like they’re making a connection, disaster strikes…and Cailin knows it’s all her fault.
Sea Glass is a coming-of-age family drama for readers aged 7-12 that explores how, despite difference and disaster, a generational gap is bridged. This contemporary Australian middle grade novel celebrates the importance of family and environment…and proves you’re never too old to go treasure hunting.

What is Sea Glass??
Sea glass is physically and chemically weathered glass found on beaches along bodies of salt water. These weathering processes produce natural frosted glass. Sea glass is used for decoration, most commonly in jewellery. "Beach glass" comes from fresh water and is often less frosted in appearance than sea glass.
Last Term’s winner of Book in a Bottle (An Elephant in the Garden) was Jaxon from 6G.
Congratulations Jaxon!!!
