Fun Run - Friday 13 September
Our much-loved Fun Run is on our last day of this term - Friday 13 September starting at 2pm. The Fun Run begins with Buddy Classes leading out together for the 1st lap (Year 6/Prep first Buddies go first) and then students complete the Fun Run at their pace.
All students need to wear their normal PE uniform, school hats and bring a water bottle. Please be reminded that the last day of Term 3 is NOT free dress day.
At the end of the Fun Run (at approximately 2.45pm), all students will receive an ice block (if they would like one) before returning to class for dismissal.
If any parents want to join in on the Fun Run, the Risk Assessment must be read and signed. This Risk Assessment will be displayed near the oval for reading and signing. Please note the following:
- No strollers or prams are allowed on Fun Run track.
- Only students currently enrolled at St John’s can participate (no younger or older siblings).
- Parents are to wear closed in shoes and hats.
If you have any questions about the Fun Run, please see your class teacher or see Mrs Graham.
It's not too late to create your profile.
Prize Ordering
Students (with their parent’s guidance) can order their prizes – this MUST BE done ONLINE by families between Saturday 14 September and Monday 14 October 2024. Simply visit funrun.com.au to log into your Profile Page between these dates and click on the ‘CLAIM YOUR PRIZE’ button and follow the prompts.

Generosity Recognised
Both Catholic Mission and St Vincent de Paul have communicated their thanks for the generosity of our St John’s community.
Once again, our Winter Appeal was hugely appreciated by St Vinnies with an incredible amount of donations for the winter months.
Also, our 2023 donations for Crazy Sock Day were utilised in Timor-Leste in the schools and hospitals there. The 2024 focus is Mongolia…Genghis Khan territory!

Port to Park - St John's Are #1!

A few weeks ago, many of our families participated in the Port to Park. It is a fantastic community, family-oriented event with exercise, sunshine and beautiful surroundings to enjoy – a perfect Sunday morning!
290 St John’s students and families participated in the 2024 Port to Park, making us once again, the #1 school. For the great efforts of our St John’s families, we earnt a $2590 donation from the Gladstone Ports Corporation.
St John’s would like to thank the Gladstone Ports Corporation for putting on such a wonderful event for the families of Gladstone and we also congratulate all of our St John’s families for supporting the Port to Park and getting a good dose of Sunday morning exercise!
St Vinnies Winter Appeal Thank You

Game 3: 2:0 our win

The Olympics Came to St John's
Last week we completed our 6-week St John’s Olympic Unit in HPE.
Over the 6 weeks, our students participated in javelin, equestrian, pentathlon, race walking, football, handball, wrestling, jumping sacks and basketball – all modified of course for safety considerations!
The feedback from our students was very positive and they thoroughly enjoyed the variety and challenge of the new skills and activities.
To make the Olympics unit extra significant, points were tallied over the weeks and St John’s Olympic Medals presented to 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The medals were amazingly realistic, made of metal and imaged with the Olympics Rings. A huge thank you to a former parent of St John’s – Mr Scott Harrington, owner of Xtreme Engineering who made and donated all of the medals and to Mrs McDonald and Mr Johnny who designed the imagery.
The students were ‘chuffed’ to say the least! We look forward to our next Olympic Unit in 2028!

Australian Catholic Bishops' Social Justice Statement 2024-2025
In a tradition reaching back to 1940, the Australian Catholic Bishops release major social justice statements each year in time for Social Justice Sunday. Through this tradition they contribute to the development of local Catholic Social Teaching. The statements encourage the Catholic community to reflect and act on social, economic and ecological issues. They remind us of the social dimension of the mission of the Church.
In the 2024 – 2025 Social Justice Statement, “Truth and Peace: A Gospel Word in a Violent World”, Australia’s Bishops scrutinise the signs of our own troubled times, observe the violence around us, and ask why it is so. They also ask what is needed if there is to be peace. In a world full of pessimism, they put their faith and hope in the possibility of peace. The statement also provides some suggested actions to help us to build on our commitment to be peacemakers locally and internationally.
