Basketball Summer Season
From Our Principal
Dear Families,
Welcome back to our final term. Each year seems to get faster and faster. I really do think that this is just a reflection of the frantic pace we set for ourselves in life. I wonder at times if we are prioritising the 'stuff ' over the things that are really important.
During the break, I read a great deal about the life of Microsoft cofounder Steve Jobs. Tragically taken at 56 by cancer, he was very conscious about the end of his life. As he was laying on his death bed, he shared his state of mind with those close to him.
He called these the Five Undeniable Facts of Life:
- Don't educate your children to be rich. Educate them to be happy so that when they grow up, they will know the value of things, not the price. We all must remind those we lead, and those we raise that happiness is the key to being successful. Doing what we love creates passion, focus and resiliency.
- Eat your food as your medicines. Otherwise, you have to eat medicines as your food. Humans have a great ability to heal themselves with the proper diet. Be careful what we use as our fuel.
- The one who loves you will never leave you for another because even if there are 100 reasons to give up, he or she will find one reason to hold on. You learn in life that it’s never the number of friends who matter, only the quality of those relationships.
- There is a big difference between a human being and being human. Only a few really understand it. Being human requires having compassion, empathy and honesty. Those are not hard traits for us to practice each day.
- You are loved when you are born. You will be loved when you die. In between, you have to manage!
Jobs learned from traveling around the globe that the six best doctors in the world aren’t in medical centres. They’re really in how we treat ourselves each day.
His six best doctors in the world:
- Rest
- Exercise
- Diet
- Self Confidence
- Friends
- Sunlight
Maintain these in all stages and enjoy a healthy life.
We have 50 days left in the school year. How do we harness the wisdom of Jobs and refocus on what is really important to us?
Have a great week and hug your kids.
Regards,
Jamie Emerick
Principal.
