From Our Principal ...
Dear Families
Keven Mealamu played over 100 games for the All Blacks. His position was hooker. The front row of any rugby scrum is no place for the faint hearted, let alone in a test rugby team. I read in an interview in the New Zealand Herald, that Keven was asked how big a part faith played in his life.
“It’s always with you,” he replied. “I’m Catholic. I go to church whenever I can. When we were on tour in Italy I stopped into a church with a couple of the other boys and went to confession.” “I said I hadn’t been to church for a long time and the priest said being Christian is not just about going to church, it’s about having a relationship with God. That was really special and made me feel a bit better because it’s hard when you’re on tour.” “As I’ve gotten older in my faith, it’s been about the gratitude, being thankful for what I have. When you travel around the world as we do, you quickly realise not everyone is as lucky as we are. You might be staying in a five-star hotel, but the poverty is just across the road. I really want to teach my kids to be grateful for all they have.”
The part about ‘having a relationship with God’ really struck me. It is not really what you would expect from one of the hard men of the All Blacks. It was a real challenge to me in my own life. Sometimes my faith can be a bit one sided. Sometimes, it is all about what God can do for me and how I am made to feel. In some ways, it is interesting in this time of almost instant worldwide communication; our ability to share our thoughts and feelings with our God seems to be diminishing.
I remember at a marriage course we attended as an engaged couple and being told that any relationship, no matter how strong, needs work and commitment. As we journey through Lent and approach the great feast of Easter, do we take the time in our day to express our gratitude for the life, gifts and challenges that we have?
Have a great week and hug your kids.
Regards,
Jamie Emerick
Principal.
Bus Stop & No Parking Zones
We have had a number of phone calls around access to bus stops around our school.
Please be reminded that the bus stop at J Hickey Ave, and the no parking zones immediately in front and behind, must be kept clear at all times.
Bus drivers are on a tight schedule to get to all schools on the afternoon runs. Please be conscious of the road rules and allow these drivers to do their job safely.
School Fees
Term 1 2025 School Fee Accounts have been issued and were emailed Thursday 13 February. Statements are also available through our online Parent Lounge Site:
https://402sjg.rok.catholic.edu.au/parentlounge
Please note, Term 1 school fees were due Friday 28 February.
For families paying via direct debit, this is still current, and the statement is for information purposes only, showing recent payments and charges.
Payments may be made by cash, cheque, direct debit, internet banking, EFTPOS or through Parent Lounge, either in full or in instalments (weekly, fortnightly or monthly).
The school office does not carry cash. If this is your preferred method of payment, please endeavour to have the correct amount on hand. When making payments by internet banking, it is imperative to use your “School Fee Account Number” as the reference. This will ensure payments are allocated to the correct account.
If you are experiencing difficulties in making this payment, please contact Vicki Walsh or Melissa Jackson in the office to discuss options.
School Office Hours:
Mon – Thurs: 8.00 am – 4.00 pm
Fri: 8.00am – 3.30 pm
Prep-Year 2 Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Code of Practice: ACCEPTANCE NOW DUE VIA PARENT LOUNGE
Each year, age-appropriate ICT Codes of Practice are communicated with our students and families.
Last week, your child’s class teacher discussed relevant and appropriate information within the Early Learning and Care – Year 2 ICT Codes of Practice.
A digital copy of the Early Learning and Care – Year 2 ICT Code of Practice has been uploaded to Parent Lounge where parents are asked to read through the document, discuss the importance of the Code of Practice with their child and tick to accept the document.
By ticking to accept, you are ‘signing’ that you have read, understood and support the Early Learning and Care – Year 2 ICT Code of Practice. This needs to be completed by Friday 14 March or your child’s access to ICT may be impacted.

Jordan House Lunch
Today, Jordan House gathered for a fun Lunch on the Lawn, celebrating house spirit and learning more about our Year 6 Leaders.
Students reflected on St. John the Baptist, our patron saint, who baptised Jesus in the Jordan River. His example of faith and leadership continues to inspire us.
The lunch brought joy to all.

St John's Way Awardees ...
Students who have embodied faith, dignity and integrity within our school.
We view our school as one body, with many parts, each in its own way contributing to our common mission.
