From Our Principal ...
Dear Families
Below is a message from our Diocesan Director.
Regards,
Jamie Emerick
Principal.
Dear All,
Welcome back to Term Two. I hope you had a blessed and peaceful Easter break.
Catholic Education – Diocese of Rockhampton joins with 1.3 billion Catholics worldwide to pray for Pope Francis, who passed away yesterday. Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, became the first non-European pope in centuries, the first Latin American pope, the first Jesuit pope and the first to take the name Francis. He will be remembered as a man of simplicity, humility and compassion.
Bishop Michael shared the following message last night:
Dear brothers and sisters,
Tonight, we heard of the death of Pope Francis who died this morning in Rome. It is with sadness that we received this news here in the diocese. I thank you all for your messages of condolences as we mourn the loss of our chief shepherd. Our priests will be leading masses during this week to pray for our Pope Francis. As we hear of the funeral, we will be planning for the various celebrations in the Cathedral.
Bishop Michael.
As a sign of respect, our flags will be flown at half-mast for the next three days.
As ‘resurrection people’, may we follow the example of Pope Francis and bring hope and new life to the people we encounter each day.
May Pope Francis rest in the loving arms of his God, who he served so well.
Kind regards,
Michael McCusker
Diocesan Director Catholic Education
Diocese of Rockhampton
ANZAC Day School Liturgy

ANZAC Day March Student Supervision
We take great pride in St John’s long-standing participation in the ANZAC Day parade. However, it's important to note that teachers volunteer their time outside of school hours to attend this event. While they are eager to accompany and represent our school community during the parade, due to safety considerations, they are not able to provide individualised supervision for students. The ANZAC parade can be overwhelming for young individuals, which further emphasises the need for parental supervision during both the parade and service.
Given these constraints, teachers may not have the necessary resources to attend to every child during the parade due to time constraints and the location of ANZAC Park. If your child typically requires extra support at school, or is prone to being anxious in large crowds or new situations, we kindly request that you accompany them during the parade as part of the St John’s cluster. This ensures that primary responsibility for safety and participation rests with the parent.
All children are welcome to march in the Day Parade. We strongly recommend applying sunscreen and having something to eat prior to arrival. It is essential students bring a full water bottle, wear full school uniform including school hat and meet supervising teachers at the Westpac Bank in Goondoon Street at 10am if attending.
We appreciate your cooperation in promptly collecting your children at the conclusion of the service.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
God Bless

Cross Country: Wednesday 30 April

Leg-Marking: Year of Birth
To assist with the hectic nature of our Cross Country morning, parents are asked to mark their child’s leg with their date of birth prior to arriving to school on Wednesday 30 April.
This is only for Year 3-6 students born in 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014 and 2013.
See photo for size and positioning requirements.
Parking
Families need to be aware that sections of the Laner Street carpark and surrounding grass verges will be roped off for the Cross Country event on Wednesday 30 April. Please be considerate of this, as it is for the safety of all of our students.
If families do secure a park within the Laner Street rear carpark which is not roped off, it is asked that you do not exit the carpark until after the event has concluded (10.45am).
If you know you will be leaving the carpark before the end of the Cross Country event, please park in another area.
All requests are made to ensure the safety of our students.
