Feast Day - Star Of The Sea
From Our Principal...
Dear Families
St John The Baptist Catholic Primary School was founded by the Marist Sisters in 1977. For Marists, Nazareth is a point of reference. Nazareth was and still is, a humble little town in northern Israel. It was the town that Joseph took Mary and Joseph too and where he spent most of his life. It is a place where Marists go in spirit and from there, see things as Mary saw them. Jeanne-Marie Chavoin, the founder of the Marist sisters reminds us that… “Our Congregation was not founded to imitate anyone else, but to have its own spirit, which is a love of poverty, simplicity and love of work. The house of Nazareth must be our model.” At Nazareth, Mary is found among the poor and humble. She shared their way of living and was attentive to the needs of those around her.
Our new covered area has been named “Nazarene Place”. This is a special reminder of our link to the town, and attitude of Nazareth. An inhabitant of the town from Nazareth is a Nazarene. As Nazarene’s, we are called to imitate the life that Mary lived. Marists see Mary as a mother of mercy who has a heart for humanity, especially those who suffer greatly, are lost or excluded. Marists, and by our association and history, St John the Baptist Catholic Primary school, help to build a church that is seen, not in terms of power, control and competitiveness, but in terms of community, compassion, simplicity, and mercy. All are welcomed, no one is excluded.
Have a good week and hug your kids

School Photo Competition Winner
During Catholic Education Week, students were invited to submit a photo to show how our school displays Faith, Hope and Love. The winning entry, voted by the school community, is Bridie Kirk from Year 5R.
Bridie submitted this photo with the caption, “This bush picture admires God’s work and all He has created.”
The book of Wisdom 13:5 states, “Through the greatness and the beauty of creatures one comes to know by the analogy their maker.”
Pope Francis outlined in Laudato Si, “The urgent challenge to protect our common home includes a concern to bring the whole human family together to seek a sustainable and integral development, for we know that things can change…Young people demand change. They wonder how anyone can claim to be building a better future without thinking of the environmental crisis and the sufferings of the excluded.”
Second place was an entry from Lilah Hall, Layla Byers, Isabella Robertson and Hayley Kirk for their entry, “Our school is a community of faith, love and hope”.
Third place was awarded to Hannah Mullins, Olivia Jeffery, Laylah Pimm and Layla Whittaker for their entry, “Together we have Faith, Hope and Love”.
Thank you,

Speech Pathology Week
Each year in August Speech Pathology Australia hosts Speech Pathology Week – to raise awareness of those in our community who have a communication disability. Communication disability affects a person’s ability to understand and be understood by others. Levels of limitation can range from mild to profound, and can be temporary or last a lifetime. There are an estimated 1.2 million Australians with communication disability (ABS data).
This week highlights the important role that speech pathologists play in assisting Australians with communication disability.
Communication skills underpin the ability to read and write, get a job and enjoy time with family and friends.
Speech pathologists work with people to change lives and build opportunities, and they understand that good communication means better communities. Communication is recognized as a basic human right by the United Nations. Improved communication skills lead to better relationships, learning, mental health and employment outcomes.
Kerith Roby is the consultant speech pathologist working at St John’s. If you have a question, or would like some advice about your child’s communication, please contact Kerith at kerithrobyslp@gmail.com; or pop in and see her in the Inclusive Education office in the school library.
