Feast Day - Star Of The Sea
From Our Principal...
Dear Families
After the assassination of President Kennedy, his young son, John Jr., asked William Haddad, an associate of JFK’s, “Are you a daddy?” Haddad told him that he was. In response, little John Jr. said, “Then will you throw me up in the air". That sad story has always been a reminder to me that the little things are important to our kids. We spend so much time sweating of over big ticket items, yet all our kids really want is us to be present and engage with them..
There is a great story of James Boswell, the Scottish Lord, layer and author. He often referred to a special day in his childhood when his father took him fishing. The day was fixed in his mind, and he often reflected upon many things his father had taught him in the course of their fishing experience together. After having heard of that particular excursion so often, it occurred to someone much later to check the journal that Boswell’s father kept and determine what had been said about the fishing trip from the parental perspective. Turning to that date, the reader found only one sentence entered: “Gone fishing today with my son; a day wasted.”
A saying I have used for many years because I have been guilty of not following it is that our kids don't want our presents, what they truly crave is our presence. We can never underestimate the value and benefits of time spent with our kids.
I hope Father's Day was a reminder of the joy our kids bring.
Have a great week and hug your kids.

2022 Fun Run
Fun Run – Friday 16 September – Last Day of Term 3!
Our annual Fun Run is on Friday 16 September (last day of this term) starting at 2.00pm. As always it is a well-loved event for our students. The Year 6 students lead off the Fun Run with their Prep Buddies and the Year 6 students dress-up in a theme of their choice.
All students (and parents and teachers) get an opportunity to stretch their legs, listen to music and watch the tally marks on their arms fill up! What more could you want on a Friday afternoon!
Sponsorship forms will go home with your child this week; please check the bottom depths of their school bags! Please refer to the form for fundraising details.
All fundraising can be done online or via cash and form. The online fundraising is now live and ready to go.
All funds raised go back into the school to purchase items that benefit all students. In the past we have raised money to purchase the new seating at Year 4-6 and prep eating areas, computer-based Robotics equipment, student seating, Nature Playgrounds, and cold water bubblers. As always, we will brainstorm with our 2022 students to get the best ideas on what to spend the raised funds on. Watch this space!
Please have all fundraising and prize selection completed and returned no later than Thursday 15 September.
2022 Swimming Carnival
Please note: Slight changes to schedule since last newsletter.

Purple For Cancer
Annually, in early September, we pay tribute to those affected by cancer by encouraging our school community to wear a splash of purple with their uniform – purple socks. purple hair ribbon etc.
If your child has something purple to add to their uniform, we would encourage them to wear it this Friday 9 September. There are no donations required.
Library News...
Our back wall, which hasn’t been seen since the end of 2018!!
It is certainly wonderful to see the large image of St John from the front entrance of the building again! Everything that was ‘stored’ down the back of the Library since then is being moved into other areas as new renovations are completed and rooms are available for us to learn and grow in.
