From Our Principal...
Dear Families
We are at the end of another term in what seems like the blink of an eye. Thank you for your ongoing patience and understanding with everything that is happening in the construction space at St John’s at the moment. While Architects keep reminding us that the short term pain and long term gain, has an impact on our school and how we do things.
The changes in pick-up and drop-off are driven by risk assessments and our ‘duty of care’ provisions. We have been given clear guidance, that no students should be walking out into oncoming traffic to enter a vehicle. Please help keep our children safe and I will continue to say that the statistics are full of people who didn’t plan to have an accident. We will continue to monitor the carpark this week and make changes as required. If you have questions or concerns, I am more than happy to catch up.
If you are travelling on the road over the holidays, please stay safe.
Have a great week and hug your kids.
Jamie Emerick
Principal
Important Changes To Laner Street
A reminder to our St John's families that changes to the Laner Street drop-off/pick-up will commence Monday 12 September to facilitate our construction process. As a temporary alternative, pick-up/drop-off will occur from the Laner Street carpark.
Key points:
*Quick pick-up/drop-off will occur in the dedicated temporary area within the Laner Street carpark.
*Students must enter vehicles from passenger side only (not driver's side).
*Laner Street parking still available in the carpark in marked areas.
*Students not permitted entry into carpark to access parked cars unless accompanied by a guardian.
For more details, check out the email distributed to families on 9 September. We thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation to ensure the safety of our students during this temporary arrangement.

Afternoon Messages
As you know, school and classrooms are very busy places!
To ensure our students are fully engaged in their learning, and our office staff are able to complete their multitude of daily required tasks, we ask that parents communicate clearly with their child at the beginning of each day where you will be picking them up from in the afternoon.
As you can imagine it is extremely difficult for our office staff to field scores of phone calls asking messages to be passed on to children regarding pick-up information.
Please keep this in mind during the Fun Run this Friday afternoon 2pm.
We thank you for your understanding and co-operation.

2022 Fun Run
Fun Run – Friday 16 September – Last Day of Term 3!
Our annual Fun Run is on Friday 16 September (last day of this term) starting at 2.00pm. As always it is a well-loved event for our students. The Year 6 students lead off the Fun Run with their Prep Buddies and the Year 6 students dress-up in a theme of their choice.
All students (and parents and teachers) get an opportunity to stretch their legs, listen to music and watch the tally marks on their arms fill up! What more could you want on a Friday afternoon!
Sponsorship forms will go home with your child this week; please check the bottom depths of their school bags! Please refer to the form for fundraising details.
All fundraising can be done online or via cash and form. The online fundraising is now live and ready to go.
All funds raised go back into the school to purchase items that benefit all students. In the past we have raised money to purchase the new seating at Year 4-6 and prep eating areas, computer-based Robotics equipment, student seating, Nature Playgrounds, and cold water bubblers. As always, we will brainstorm with our 2022 students to get the best ideas on what to spend the raised funds on. Watch this space!
Please have all fundraising and prize selection completed and returned no later than Thursday 15 September.
Library News...

In our library this week we celebrate the end of a very busy term with colouring-in, games and music.
Last weeks ‘What country am I?’ was Antarctica! Congratulations to those who guessed correctly.
This terms ‘Book in a Bottle’ was Rowan of Rin, by Emily Rodder.
The winner of the competition is Danielle Watkins in 4K. Congratulations Danielle!!
Bravest heart will carry on when sleep is death, and hope is gone.
Rowan does not believe he has a brave heart. But when the river that supports his village of Rin runs dry, he must join a dangerous journey to its source in the forbidden Mountain. To save Rin, Rowan and his companions must conquer not only the Mountain’s many tricks, but also the fierce dragon that lives at its peak.
Seven hearts the journey make. Seven ways the hearts will break…
The witch Sheba’s prophecy is like a riddle. A riddle Rowan must solve if he is to find out the secret of the Mountain and save his home…
To the sturdy villagers of Rin, the boy Rowan is a timid weakling. The most disappointing child ever. Yet, incredibly, it is his help they need when the stream that flows from the top of the Mountain dries up. Without its water their precious bukshah herds will die, and Rin will be doomed.
The six strongest villagers must brave the unknown terrors of the Mountain to discover the answer to the riddle. And Rowan, the unwanted seventh member of the group, must go with them.
Enjoy your holiday’s everyone, stay safe.
