From Our Principal
Dear Families
My brother sent me this over the weekend, I thought it was well worth sharing.
A Creed To Live By
Don't undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others. It is because we are different that each of us is special.
Don't set your goals by what other people deem important. Only you know what is best for you.
Don't take for granted the things closest to your heart. Cling to them as you would your life, for without them life is meaningless.
Don't let your life slip through your fingers by living in the past or for the future. By living your life one day at a time, you live all the days of your life.
Don't give up when you still have something to give. Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying.
Don't be afraid to admit that you are less than perfect. It is this fragile thread that binds us to each other.
Don't be afraid to encounter risks. It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave.
Don't shut love out of your life by saying it's impossible to find. The quickest way to receive love is to give love. The fastest way to lose love is to hold it too tightly; and the best way to keep love is to give it wings.
Don't dismiss your dreams. To be without dreams is to be without hope; to be without hope is to be without purpose.
Don't run through life so fast that you forget not only where you've been, but also where you're going. Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored each step of the way.
Have a good week and hug your kids.

Pauline Jaricot
Pauline Jaricot was a woman immersed in her world, working tirelessly to bring on 'the good'.
Pauline Jaricot was a young French woman born on 22 July 1799. She was born into a family engaged in the fashion industry of the time, as her father owned a silk factory, and was destined for a comfortable life. Pauline gave all of this up to connect with people whose lives were marked by struggle, founding organisations that still survive today.
Pauline challenged Church leaders of the time. Her aim was to set up a worldwide movement to free people from harsh circumstances and lead them to a spirituality that gave them hope. This was a young woman who had a fire lit deep within her. A young woman who responded to the needs of the world and the people around her. A young woman who inspired others to not give up and in turn, changed the world.
Today, Pauline Jaricot is known as the founder of two organisations which became a universal mission under the direction of the Holy Father Pope Pius XI. Pauline was a savvy, innovative and assertive young missionary who used her common sense to ensure the success of her organisations. It was the love of God and loyalty to her mission that enabled her to stand firm, eventually giving the Church great works of mission and charity. She said: "I lit the match that lit the fire".
Let us hope St John's students can continue to assist Catholic Mission through innovation, creativity and consideration of others.

Trash And Treasure Sale
By Matilda Young 4K
Brave Souls to Set Up Brave Stalls!
Some brave souls from Year 4 have decided to help the Socktober Mission Challenge in 2022.
They are having a Trash 'n’ Treasure sale to raise funds for the missionaries in Ethiopia. Did you
know, you don't have to be a priest or a nun to be a missionary? The Catholic Mission's aim
is to help villages become more independent and to find ways to help with food insecurity. One
way is through raising goats, yes, goats! Milk from goats is more nutritious than cow's milk and
helps Ethiopian families feed their babies and young children. Money from our stalls will help
starving families set up a goat rearing shed in their communities to make sure all the children
grow healthy and strong.
There will be two stalls and Year 4 have set their minds on helping others this Socktober!
They will be selling art, craft, toys and home-woven bracelets. You may even find lip gloss,
books, puppets and slinkies. All prices are below $5 and could help with Christmas gifts.
We need your donations to make this a success.
Books, unused colouring-books, nice toys, card and board games, home made bracelets or
earrings, play dough, slime, dress-ups…anything worth selling.
So, come on down to the shed at both breaks on Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 of October to
find a gift meant for you. We look forward to seeing you there.
Please bring donations to the front office for Mrs. O’Brien.
Thank you,
Matilda 4K

Thank you St John’s for your continuing support of the Catholic Mission. Keep sending in items for our Trash n Treasure Sale.
The Year 5s are sourcing pre-loved (or newish) books for a Book and Biscuit Sale. Donations to the office by Friday 21 October preferred.

Book of Inspiration
St John's is writing a book to add to our library collection that will be filled with stories of inspiration to encourage one another to go above and beyond - and we need your help! Ignite-5, the Year 5 Learning Enrichment Project Team is calling for student submissions of brief memoirs about people who inspire them. Submissions will be included in a professionally printed book titled, "BEYOND. Inspired. Limitless." Bailey, a member of the team leading the project and an avid tennis player is inspired by the qualities shown by tennis superstar, Roger Federer. You can read about what inspires Bailey in his submission below. Submission forms are available in classrooms and from the library. Closing date for submissions is 17 October.

Lost Property
We have a number of pairs of glasses and and watches in our lost property. Please check the photos below to identify if any of them are your child's.

Library News...

Last week in our library we were very busy indeed. On Monday the Many Tangled Yarns craft group gathered and spent time creating together.
On Wednesday a small group of younger students enjoyed the story ‘Bush Magic’ by Kylie Howarth and then coloured, cut and crafted their own Bush Magic crowns!
Thursday was a wonderful meeting of older students wanting to participate in our book club, Chapter Chatters – in which we all enjoyed the mutual silence that comes with avid book reading.
Last week’s brain baffler for the older students was:
What are the plastic or metal tips on the end of your shoelaces called? They are Aglets!
Congratulations to Cooper F 6B and Isaac 6D for answering correctly!
The younger students were also left contemplating with their question:
What bird bends their legs at the ankle and not the knee?
Of course!

10 Cent Challenge

10 cent challenge
Start saving those 10 cent coins everyone!
On Tuesday 25 October St John’s will have their annual 10 cent challenge in the Nazarene Place. Last year we raised an astronomical amount for Catholic Mission and I am sure 2022 will be the same 😊 Each year we encourage students to bring along as many 10 cent pieces as they can and we line these up along the lines in the basketball courts.
This year Catholic Mission is focusing on Ethiopia and food insecurity in that nation.
Crazy Sock Day
On Friday 28 October we will have Crazy Sock Day. This is a gold coin donation opportunity with raised funds supporting Catholic Mission. Please support this and the missionaries in Ethiopia.
