Informer - Term 4 Week 9
From Our Principal...
Dear Families
As we reach the end of another hectic year, I hope that the break is a chance for you to spend time with family and just catch our collective breath. 2022 has been a year that hasn’t seemed to stop. We buckled in during January and the ride has been a rollercoaster of emotions and events for the past four terms. Thank you for your patience and understanding as the ongoing saga of the ‘build’ continues to unfold. I know I can get a bit flippant with the whole project, but once the construction is finished and we get to start putting our own stamp on the school site, I think St John’s will look amazing and be a beautiful place for learning and community for many years into the future.
Thank you to everyone for the support that you continue to show our school, St John’s is great place to come to work each day and the community here places a substantial role in making us who we are. For those families who will be concluding their time at St john’s at the end of the year, may God’s blessings be with you all now and into future and may he continue to hold you all in the palm of his hand.
If you are travelling over the break, stay safe on the roads.
Have a great break and may the peace of the Christ child be with you and all those you love.

Robotics Competition
Congratulations to the our outstanding “Enginerds” who competed in the FIRST Lego League Nationals North Robotics Competition last weekend in Brisbane. Their amazing effort saw the team finish eighth out of forty-four teams, coming ahead of many from around the state and older age groups. We are so proud of their efforts and sincerely thank Ms Seebacher and Mrs Anderson who travelled away to supervise and encourage them.

IGNITE 5 Beyond. Limitless. Inspired
Having received almost 50 submissions from the St John's student community about stories of people who inspire, the Year 5 Ignite Learning Enrichment Project Team are enormously proud to announce that the school community book, "Beyond. Inspired. Limitless." is hot off the press! The Beyond book is not only a truly inspiring demonstration of the reflective skills of our students and their ability to look beyond themselves, it is a fabulous real world example of what can be achieved when a school community joins together to collaborate to turn an idea into a reality. Year level submission winners will be announced at assembly on Wednesday. The project team are looking forward to seeing this book become a treasured addition to the school library to spread stories of inspiration for years to come.

Readathon
Throughout Semester Two, the Year 6 Ignite Learning Enrichment Project Team have successfully developed their team charter and project plan to deliver a school readathon, Bookmarked. Their weekly read recommendations have led to the surprise discovery of Golden Bookworms burrowed within recommended school library books each week to help students discover new genres and authors. Throughout the course of the readathon, participants have read an incredible 32,149 pages! Year level readathon winners with the most pages read will be announced this week. Well done to all readathon participants for fulfilling your need to read this semester. Through your reading, Ignite 6 hope that you've developed some amazing reading habits and discovered some new perspectives and ideas that will serve you well into the future. No doubt some magical literary adventures were had in the process!

St Vinnies Christmas Hamper Appeal 2022
https://donate.vinnies.org.au/appeals-nt/christmas-appeal-nt
St John's has a proud tradition of supporting St Vincent de Paul each Christmas. Our focus is on donations of non-perishable food to support Central Queensland families. If you can provide food with at least a three-month 'in date' stamp your donation will help others in need during the festive season.
Items could include packaged fruit cake, biscuits, lollies, pasta, rice, baked beans, tinned food, dry/tinned pet food or play items. Perhaps a box of Christmas crackers will bring a smile to a child's face.
Donations can be left in the front office in the 'baskets' or with the front office ladies: Vicki, Melissa J or Mel D. 😊
Thank you for your continued support.

St Vinnies Christmas Tree Appeal 2022
The St John's Christmas Tree has been set up in the front office!
This is an opportunity for our school community to build awareness for children in families who are less fortunate than ours. Each year we ask families to consider buying a gift for a child or young person and placing it under the tree. There are gift tags hanging from the tree with the gender and age of a child written on the back e.g. girl aged 3 years. These ages range from 6 months to 16 years old.
It is a great way to discuss the meaning of Christmas, to give rather than to receive. It is worth considering the Christmas story Christians around the world believe, that God gave us his son in the hope of building a close relationship with each of us. Ultimately the gift of God's grace and love.
We hope your family feels the love, joy and peace of the Christmas season.
