I Do – I Do – I Do – I Do
From Our Principal ...
Dear Families
The Blessing and Opening of our new buildings occurred last Friday. It was the culmination of a process that commenced its planning in 2019 and began construction in the Easter holidays of 2020. We were blessed to have a Building Services team at Catholic Education Diocese of Rockhampton (CEDR) that guided us through three years of construction. Their calmness and professionalism were rocks of support that got us through many of the bumpy periods over the three years.
Our school staff have been amazing. The past three years have presented us with a range of challenges, which at times, seemed as if they were never going to end. Their continued willingness to adapt and work through the multitude of challenging situations allowed us to keep work going. This is another very public “Thank You” to each and every one of our staff, both teaching and support, for the many unspoken challenges that you accepted and took in your stride.
Our students who have endured fencing, changed eating areas, noise, changes in routines, different pick-up arrangements. They were simply outstanding on Friday. They handled the long day with calmness and self-control. We are now looking to getting school life back to a sense of being normal. There will be lots of exciting events and learning in the coming years at St John’s.
To our parent community, there were many times over the last three years when I sent notes out detailing changes, impositions or delays. My overwhelming memory of this is that the positive messages and emails I got back, far outweighed the negatives. Your sense of reality and awareness of a process that would deliver a greater good, have never been taken for granted or not appreciated.
Finally, I would like to especially thank our school Leadership Team. I cannot have asked for a greater team to be a part of. To Jakki, Kym, Lisa and Donna, your wisdom and knowledge of schools has been an amazing support for our school. The collegial approach to planning, decision making and communication has gone a long way to keeping the project on track, the school operating and us all staying (mostly) sane.
The end of the term is fast approaching. Don’t forget school photos this week.
Have a great week and hug your kids.
Regards
Jamie Emerick

Aussie Bread Tags for Wheelchairs
Here at St. John’s, we pride ourselves on being sustainable and recycling what we can to help God’s creation. Aussie Bread Tags for Wheelchairs is an Australian company that is collecting and sorting bread tags nation-wide. They are creating new products with recycled bread tags that include wheelchairs and reusable food bowls. As of May 2023, they have recycled over 10,000kg of Aussie bread tags (that’s over 10 tonnes of plastic waste)!
How can you help? Please collect any plastic bread clips from home and bring them into your classroom to put into your class’ collection container. There is also a collection container at the front office. Once a fortnight, Year 4 will collect the containers and empty them into our main bin. Once this is full, we will take it to the collection depot in town, where they will be sent away for recycling.
Thank you for helping us to be kinder to our world and for looking after God’s creation.
